What’s next? That’s the question often asked in the world of design. It can refer to the next “it” item, an innovative material, or a new technique to master. But in many cases, what’s next means the search for a new breed of creatives—those who will not only produce modern designs but also carry the torch for preserving traditional crafts and showcasing them on a global stage. That’s what Fashion Aid Philippines aims to do with the recent launch of its new initiative—The Grant.

Fashion Aid Philippines is a duly registered non-profit organization that seeks to promote cultural, social, and economic awareness among the public, while supporting the new generation of Filipino creatives and their applied arts. For quite some time, it has been the beneficiary of various events led by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos at the Goldenberg Mansion.

To further its mission of nurturing the next wave of Filipino creatives, Fashion Aid Philippines invites young visionaries and makers in the fields of fashion, accessories, furniture, and industrial design to apply for The Grant. It is a competition aimed at discovering talents who can be sent to various academies in the design capitals of the world. In essence, The Grant is a journey of design education and exploration—where selected creatives refine their concepts, collaborate with industry leaders, and present bold ideas ready for the global stage.

“This initiative is our investment in the future of Filipino design. It supports emerging designers through mentorship, cultural exchange, and the opportunity to be part of a larger movement that centers on identity, heritage, and innovation,” said Paul Cabral, president of Fashion Aid Philippines. “This is not just a launch but a promise to empower, elevate, and reignite Filipino creativity.”

The competition is open to interested designers aged 18 to 40 years old. Applicants must be Filipino citizens currently residing in the Philippines, and must submit a scanned copy of a valid government-issued ID along with a short video presentation (maximum of five minutes) featuring their existing product. Submissions must be sent to fashionaidphilippines@gmail.com by May 15, 2025.

Participants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Creativity and Originality: Visual impact, innovative ideas, and concept development
2. Innovation and Sustainability: Global appeal, and environmental and ethical considerations
3. Execution and Technical Skill: Attention to detail and craftsmanship
4. Relevance to Filipino Culture, Arts, and Tourism: How the work embodies Filipino identity and connects with local audiences
5. Marketability: Growth potential and alignment with current and future market needs

Winners will receive a design education scholarship, a cash prize, and an exclusive opportunity to showcase their work at a premier venue in Paris, France. The screening process will take place from May to June 2025, followed by production and mentoring sessions from June to August. Winners will be announced in September.
