Katya Angara's 'Sorceress' casts a spell at The Crucible Gallery
The Crucible Gallery at SM Megamall’s Building A Artwalk is home to the latest works of Katya Angara until Aug. 30. The solo exhibit is called “Sorceress,” an apt title, as the pieces weave a particular kind of magic, insinuating themselves into your consciousness as you begin to grasp what you are viewing.

A half-woman, half-bird creature with claws and plumage, then a woman reclining with the head of a bird where her mouth should be—there is a strange sorcery afoot and hanging on the Crucible walls.
Instead of the usual ribbon-cutting ceremony, a dance number performed by a crow and the “sorceress” ushered in the exhibit. There was full support from the Angara family, with Mom Gloria, brother Sonny and his family, and sister Anna on hand to welcome the guests. And what guests they were, as the art community showed up in full force: Ramon Orlina, Gus Albor, Ron Davis, David Kaufman, Jinggoy Buensuceso, and Ivan Co, just to name a few.
