Malacañang took a swipe at Vice President Sara Duterte after she expressed hope that the 2028 presidential election would be held, saying she should review the Constitution to answer her own statements.
In an interview at The Hague, Netherlands, Duterte said, "we can only pray that there will be a presidential election in 2028" and hopes that it will be honest, orderly, and peaceful.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the statements of the Vice President are "merely intrigues."
So these kinds of answers from the Vice President, we know they are merely intrigue, stories without basis. Hopefully she reviews again, as a lawyer, what the Constitution contains so she can also address her own statements)," Castro said in a Palace briefing.
Siguro kahit siya ay natatawa sa kaniyang sariling sagot (You can clearly see that while the Vice President was answering, she was smiling. Perhaps she even found her own answer amusing)," Castro added.
The Palace official also noted that the Vice President seemed eager to discuss the upcoming elections.
First of all, we can also see the Vice President’s eagerness to talk about the 2028 elections, while the President is busy addressing whatever impact the crisis in the Middle East may have)," Castro said.
Duterte is now considered as a presumptive candidate for the next presidential election after she declared her intention to run.
The Palace mouthpiece also called the Vice President as an "expert in planting intrigues."
As for the Vice President, she is a lawyer, so is this a case of ‘like father, like daughter’? We all know that former President Duterte admitted that he is an expert in creating intrigue and planting evidence)," Castro said.
