The Philippine Masters Games Association (PGMA) is fielding a competitive team that will compete in the World Masters Games in Chinese Taipei from May 17 to 30.

PGMA President Atty. Alberto Agram, a senior athlete himself, said they will hold a Masters Combine which will determine the composition of the delegation for the 35-year-old and above tournament.

“Balak po namin magkaroon ng isang event for all sports, for all masters and seniors, ito po ay benchmarking parang time trials, so paramihan ng pull ups, bench press, pabilisan sa 60-meter dash, 1600m run,” said Agra.

“Balak namin gawin ‘to regularly, hopefully every year or every six months, kahit na masters and seniors ay nagpo-progress at nagi-improve,” Agra added in Tuesday’s PSA Forum which is presented by San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission. Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, Smart/PLDT, and the country’s 24/7 sports app ArenaPlus.

The Philippines will vie in basketball, athletics, taekwondo, fencing, archery, triathlon, table tennis, swimming, weightlifting and fun run.

Agra said since the PMGA is a non-profit organization with no funding from the government, the Philippine representatives to the World Masters have agreed to pay for their own.

“They are self-funded since we have no financial support yet from the Philippine Sports Commission. But we are trying. So we pay for our own. Sariling accommodation, airfare and others,” said Agra.
