DTI imposes 2-month price freeze in flood-hit Puerto Princesa City


The Department of Trade and Industry-Palawan has imposed a 60-day price freeze on basic necessities in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan after a state of calamity was declared due to severe effects of heavy rain and flood caused by the shear line.

The DTI reminded business establishments to comply with the price freeze on basic necessities.

Violators will be penalized with  imprisonment for one year to 10 years or a fine ranging from P5,000 to P1 million or both at the discretion of the court aside from the applicable administrative penalties, the DTI said.

Products under price freeze per Republic Act 7581 as amended by RA 10623 are canned fish and other marine products, processed milk (evaporated, condensed, and powdered milk), coffee, laundry and detergent soap, candles, bread (tasty and pandesal), iodized salt, instant noodles, and bottled water.

Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 1686-2024 declared the city under a state of calamity. This declaration enables the city government to hasten relief efforts.

The city has been pummeled by incessant downpour in the past days.

The city government said classes on all levels will resume on Thursday, Feb. 13, as the weather improved and upon the recommended by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Narra, Palawan, which was affected by extensive flooding, declared a state of calamity to fast-track rehabilitation efforts.
