6,500 flee flooding, heavy rain in Palawan


More than 1,800 families or 6,500 individuals have fled flooding and heavy rain from the shear line in Palawan.

THE Sun shines on Feb. 12 but a part of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan remains flooded following heavy rain from the shear line. (Palawan Island Network FB) 

The evacuees were from the municipalities of Aborlan, Narra, Sofronio Española, and Brooke's Point.

They sought shelter in various evacuation centers according to the situational report of the Emergency Operations Center of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as of 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Meanwhile, the provincial government, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, distributed 500 family food packs to evacuees in  Brooke's Point on Tuesday.

Gov. Dennis Socrates led the distribution and checked the situation of evacuees in Barangay Aribungos. 

Socrates was accompanied by Provincial Information Officer  Christian Jay V. Cojamco and Provincial Engineer Aireen C. Laguisma. 

Each family food pack is composed of six kilos of rice, energy drink, assorted canned goods, and coffee.
