The city council approved the resolution declaring the state of calamity filed by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council during its regular session.

The resolution enables the CDRRMO to use P86 million from the Quick Response Fund for disaster response operations, particularly for flood victims.

More than 3,000 families or 7,900 persons were affected by the flooding.

Meanwhile, five persons died when their vehicle was swept away by raging floodwater in Puerto Princesa on Sunday, Feb. 9.

The vehicle with 12 individuals onboard stalled while crossing a flooded road in the boundary of Aborlan and Puerto Princesa.

Seven individuals, six adults and an infant, were rescued. However, the vehicle with five persons onboard was swept away.

Authorities recovered the bodies of the fatalities – the driver, his wife, and their two children,  and an adult – and the vehicle in search and retrieval operations in the area.

The surviving individuals are recovering in the hospital.

The vehicle was on its way to Puerto Princesa from Bataraza in Palawan when the incident happened.
