The Malabon City government inaugurated the first floor of a new apartment-type tomb facility at the Tugatog Public Cemetery (TPC) on Tuesday, Oct. 21, to provide additional burial spaces and ensure a smooth and orderly observance of Undas 2025.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, together with former Congressman Ricky Sandoval and other city officials, led the inauguration and blessing of the new facility named “The Risen Christ Hall.”
The project aims to provide Malabueño families with a clean and dignified resting place for their departed loved ones.
“Sa nalalapit na Undas ngayong taon, pangako natin na maging maayos ang paggunita ng pamilya habang sila ay nananalangin para sa kanilang mga yumaong mahal sa buhay (As Undas approaches this year, we promise to ensure that families can peacefully remember and pray for their departed loved ones),” Sandoval said.
“Alam po natin ang kahalagahan ng pagbibigay respeto o paggalang sa mga mahal natin sa buhay na sumakabilang-buhay, kaya atin pong isinulong ang pagpapatayo ng gusaling ito upang magkaroon sila ng maayos at desenteng lugar na paglilibingan sa Tugatog Public Cemetery (We understand the importance of showing respect and honoring those who have passed away, which is why we pushed for the construction of this facility to provide a proper and dignified resting place at the Tugatog Public Cemetery),” she added.
Sandoval said the city government is also fully prepared to ensure a safe and orderly visit to cemeteries and columbaria during Undas 2025, with measures already in place to safeguard families as they honor their departed loved ones.
According to the Public Information Office (PIO), the newly opened level has 360 niches and is part of the project’s first phase, which involves the construction of a two-storey building on a 908-square-meter lot inside the cemetery. Once completed, the facility will have a total of 648 niches.
The City Engineering Department said the construction began in Sept. 2024 and is expected to be completed by Nov. 2025.
It added that the project is being implemented on schedule and in accordance with safety and structural standards.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete said the new facility forms part of the city’s broader preparations for Undas 2025, which include safety measures, crowd control, and traffic management around cemeteries.
“The opening of the first floor of our new apartment-type building, which houses the niches, is part of our continuing commitment to provide a proper and dignified resting place for departed Malabueños,” he said.
“Bahagi ito ng ating mga programa para sa Undas 2025 na nakatuon hindi lamang sa mga sumakabilang-buhay kundi pati sa kapakanan ng kanilang mga pamilyang bumibisita (This is part of our Undas 2025 programs, which focus not only on honoring the departed but also on ensuring the well-being of their visiting families),” Rosete added.
The city government will soon release the guidelines for applying and assigning niches to qualified families.
Mayor Sandoval also initiated the Wall of Remembrance and the free cremation program, which have already benefited more than 2,400 residents.
