The Malabon city government announced on Monday, Oct. 23, that it will establish a “Wall of Remembrance” at the Tugatog Public Cemetery, which is currently under renovation, to provide a space for visitors who want to pay respects to their deceased relatives buried in the area.

It said that the wall at the cemetery will be open to the public starting Oct. 29 so that residents can light candles and offer prayers to their departed loved ones.

“Nakatala ang pangalan ng bawat minamahal natin sa Wall of Remembrance upang magkaroon ng paraan ang bawat Malabueño na may minamahal sa Tugatog na makapagpahayag ng pasasalamat sa mga mahalagang alaala na kanilang iniwan, na hindi kailanman mawawala sa ating mga puso (The names of each of our loved ones are listed on the Wall of Remembrance so that every Malabueño who has a loved one in Tugatog can express gratitude for the precious memories they left behind, which will never be lost in our hearts),” the local government added.

The local government started the redevelopment of the Tugatog Public Cemetery in 2021 to make the burial site more secure, clean, and also add more burial slots for the deceased in the city.

The city government said on Tuesday that they still need to complete  57 percent of the site’s renovation before it can be fully opened to the public.

It assured the residents that the remains of their loved ones were brought to a safe place.

During the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in 2022, the local government also allowed residents to offer flowers and prayers, and light candles outside the cemetery for their loved ones buried at the site.

The local government advised the public to coordinate with them if they have any questions and check the city’s official Facebook page for updates regarding the renovation of the cemetery.
