The Malabon City government inaugurated on Sunday, Oct. 29, the "Wall of Remembrance '' for people who wanted to pay respects to their deceased relatives buried at Tugatog Public Cemetery in Malabon.

According to the city government, the Tugatog Public Cemetery started the redevelopment in 2021.
It aims to enhance the security and cleanliness of burial sites and provide additional burial slots for the deceased in the city.

The government said that it still needs to finish 57 percent of the site's renovation before it can be fully opened to the public.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval apologized for the delay of the ongoing renovation of the cemetery and they assured the residents that the remains of their loved ones were brought to a safe place.

"Paumanhin po kung may katagalan, ngunit tinitiyak po namin na sa local na pamahalaan, na ito ay maging ligtas, at maayos sa lalaong madaling panahon (I apologize for any delay, but we assure you that in the local government, we are making sure that it will be safe and in good condition in the shortest possible time)," Sandoval said.
The Malabon City's Public Cemetery was temporarily closed to the public for renovation in 2021.
It affected families and the general population of Malabueños who wanted to pay their respects on the cemetery's grounds.
Furthermore, Sandoval stated that the public cemetery is open starting Oct. 29 to Nov. 2.
"Bukas po ang Tugatod cemetery kung nais po nating dalawin at mag bigay pugay sa ating mga yumaon mahal sa buhay mula ngayong araw hangang Nov. 2 (The Tugatog Cemetery is open if you wish to visit and pay your respects to our departed loved ones from today until November 2nd)," she said.
The local government unit stated that the Wall of Remembrance consists of a total of 6 walls, each with a height and length of 8.4 meters were constructed.
The names of all the beloved departed individuals buried in the cemetery are inscribed on the walls.
Moreover, there is a designated space at the Wall of Remembrance where visitors can light a candle and offer their prayers.
The LGU stated that they consider the Wall of Remembrance as a symbol of the commitment to creating a better future for those who have passed.
It is also a testament to the deep respect for tradition and the unity and strength we hold in the present.
The LGU also provided assistance desks at the entrance of the cemetery to provide the details for the vistors of the deceased family buried at the site.
The city government of Malabon encouraged the public to visit its Tugatog Website Application and the Malabon City Government Facebook page to stay updated on the status of burial services.
