Angara promises 'soon' announcement of DepEd appointments


The office of incoming Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara assured on Tuesday, July 16, that the announcement of officials' appointments is imminent.

Angara’s office released a statement through DepEd following the resignation of five high-ranking officials before the turnover scheduled on July 18.

“We respect the decision of the DepEd Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries who tendered their courtesy resignations ahead of our assumption as Secretary of Education,” Angara said.

Earlier, DepEd confirmed that five officials—two undersecretaries and three assistant secretaries—had tendered their resignations. Vice President and outgoing Education Secretary Sara Duterte appointed them.

Among the DepEd officials who resigned included Spokesperson, Undersecretary, and Chief of Staff Michael T. Poa; Undersecretary for Administration Nolasco A. Mempin; Assistant Secretary (Office of the Secretary) Sunshine A. Fajarda; Assistant Secretary for Procurement Reynold S. Munsayac; and Assistant Secretary for Administration Noel T. Baluyan.

Meanwhile, Angara’s office stated they are "eagerly anticipating taking on our new role" on July 19.

“Any appropriate appointments will be announced soon as we intend to hit the ground running and drive immediate progress,” Angara’s office added.
