3 suspects in murder of Calapan dentist in police custody

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Three persons – two of them minors – are now in police custody in connection with the brutal murder of a dentist inside his residence in this city on January 14.

Police said the suspects, aged 15, 16, and 21, surrendered to the police on Friday, January 19, through the help of a lady city prosecutor who was contacted by a relative of a suspect.

The 15-year-old suspect voluntarily surrendered when a team of policemen led by Police Lt. Col. Danilo U. Driz Jr., Calapan City Police Station chief, and City Prosecutor Dorina Joya, arrived in his residence here on Friday night.

Police said the victim’s cell phone was recovered after divers from city hall on Saturday, January 20, searched the vicinity of a river near a bridge where the suspects reportedly threw some of the stolen items, including the main video recording component of the closed-circuit television camera in the victim’s house.

Police Col. Samuel S. Delorino,  Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (PPO) chief and commander of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG)-Bolor commended the hard work and dedication of the Calapan City Police and other units in resolving the case.

"The swift action and collaboration of our officers have been instrumental in bringing about this positive development," said Delorino.

Police Capt. Ann Michell V. Selda, head of the Public Information Office of Oriental Mindoro PPO, said criminal charges against the suspects have been filed before the prosecutor’s office for evaluation.

Bolor was known for his flashy jewelry and filing a Certificate of Candidacy for president in the 2010 elections won by the late President Benigno S. Aquino III.

However, he was disqualified by the Commission on Elections for being a nuisance candidate with 90 others.
