Kammerchor Manila has recently returned to the Philippines after winning in three prestigious competitions in Europe, and earning the title "Choir of the World" in Wales, United Kingdom, on July 8.

The choir also won at the 69th International Choral Contest Habaneras and Polyphony Torrevieja 2023, held in Spain on July 23 to 29, 2023. Truly notable accomplishments, to be sure.

They were recognized in the following categories:

  • 1st prize in the Habaneras category
  • 1st prize in the Polyphony category
  • Premio Excma. Diputación Provincial de Alicante (Highest global score in Habanera and Polyphony)

Furthermore, their musical director, Anthony Go Villanueva, was honored with the title of "Best Conductor," at the selfsame competition.

"It was priceless. I think the moment that the jury announced our choir it's like all our hard work has paid off," Anthony shared to Manila Bulletin Lifestyle.

"Many artists here, especially young choristers and conductors, are inspired by the group's feat. We hope that future generations of musicians can learn from our win."

The group is a non-profit choir founded in 1992 by University of Santos Tomas (UST) Professor Fidel Calalang Jr. The choir is known for its high-quality performances of a wide range of choral music, from classical to contemporary. Kammerchor Manila has won numerous awards at national and international competitions, and is dedicated to excellence in music, friendship, and service to God.

The competition featured a diverse array of choirs from Spain, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Poland, Lithuania, and other countries.

In addition to their victory, Kammerchor Manila secured the 3rd prize in the Grand Prix, 1st prize in the categories of Spiritual and Gospel, Pop and Jazz, and 2nd prize in the Folk and Traditional categories at the Seghizzi International Choral Competition held in Gorizia, Italy.
