In an advisory, DepEd said that the 2023 NTD celebration will be held at the Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) Morelos Campus in Libertad, Butuan City.

The NTD also coincides with the World Teachers’ Day (WTD) celebration and the culmination of the National Teachers’ Month (NTM) which started on Sept. 5.

Celebrating Filipino teachers

The celebration of the NTD, WTD, and NTM is part of DepEd’s efforts to recognize the significant role of teachers in educating Filipino children.

This year, the theme for the NTM celebration is “Together4Teachers” which aims to celebrate the excellence and greatness of Filipino teachers.

During the NTM kick-off in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on Sept. 5, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte recognized the important role of teachers in molding the minds of the youth and in nation-building.

“Teachers built the foundation of who I am as a Filipino in many ways,” Duterte said.

Duterte noted that many people achieved their dreams with the help of their teachers.

“Teachers are the spark of inspiration in every classroom, the guiding light of countless possibilities and better futures, and the builders of our nation’s dreams,” Duterte said.

“Teachers have essentially helped build our country. And teachers will always be there as we move forward with our aspirations to see a stable, secure, peaceful, and strong motherland,” she added.

Duterte said the NTM serves as a reminder of the importance of teachers in the lives of Filipinos and the future of the Philippines.

“But please remember that the nation’s gratitude and profound appreciation for our educators do not end on the last day [of NTM],” she said.

Duterte noted that the Philippines has thrived not just because of its resources but also because of individuals like teachers who have nurtured its most precious resource --- the Filipino youth.
“Our nation owes an immense debt to its educators,” she said. “Your impact extends beyond classroom walls and resonates deeply in the hearts and minds of those you guide,” she added.

The celebrations of the NTM, NTD, and the WTD are under Presidential Proclamation No. 242 series of 2011 titled Declaring the Period from September 5 to October 5 of Every Year as National Teachers’ Month; Republic Act No. 10743 titled An Act Declaring the Fifth Day of October of Every Year as a National Teachers’ Day and its Implementing Rules And Regulations (IRR) and the designation of the World Teachers’ Day every 5th of October by the United Nations Education and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO).

DepEd noted that these celebrations aim to “revitalize the image and respect for teaching as a vocation” by increasing public awareness of the value of teachers in Philippine society and opportunities to generate widespread support and assistance for teachers.
