The Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed on Tuesday, Oct. 10, that the teacher accused of "child abuse" in a public school in Antipolo City is now under a 90-day preventive suspension.

DepEd confirmed to the Manila Bulletin that the teacher involved in the incident, where an elementary pupil died, has been placed under preventive suspension for 90 days as directed by its regional office.
Meanwhile, DepEd did not provide additional details and information regarding the case, as the “investigation is currently underway.”
In a statement issued on Oct. 3, DepEd confirmed the death of a pupil in Peñafrancia Elementary School in Antipolo City following an alleged child abuse incident.

The DepEd - Schools Division Office (SDO) of Antipolo City stated that as the Disciplining Authority, the Office of the Regional Director has issued an Order designating a Fact-Finding Investigation Team and directing the committee to “conduct an immediate, cautious, and comprehensive fact-finding investigation in recognition of the rights of both parties to be heard as part of due process.”
During the celebration of National Teachers’ Day on Oct. 5, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte also addressed the death of a learner in the city of Antipolo, Rizal province.
She also reminded teachers to ensure the safety of students entrusted to their care at all times.
“Let me just remind you, all our teachers, that children are entrusted to your care,” Duterte said. “Whether it be physical, sexual, or verbal abuse, you don’t do that to children, especially those entrusted to your care, fully by the community and their families,” she added.
Teachers, Duterte said, are “supposed to take care” of the learners entrusted to them.
“You are supposed to mold them into the best citizens we can have for the future of our country. You are supposed to ensure that they are happy to learn what you are teaching,” she added.
Given this, Duterte urged teachers to “always keep in mind that whatever you do will affect the life of that child.”
