BuCor conducts 'surprise' drug test of personnel

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) conducted a surprise drug test of 104 officers and employees at its headquarters in Muntinlupa City and all of them tested negative for illegal drugs use.

BuCor’s Public Information Office Chief, Corrections Chief Supt. Julie May C. Taguiam, said on Sunday, Oct. 16, that the surprise drug test was done last Monday, Oct. 10.

Taguiam said the surprise drug test “is a safety protocol, especially for public servants in the Uniformed Service that is proven to help reduce workplace incidents and shall serve as a prevention and deterrent method that is often part of a comprehensive drug-free workplace program.”

BuCor Deputy Director General for Administration Gabriel P. Chaclag led the conduct of the surprise drug test.

Taguiam also said the drug test was “in line with the continuous support of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs (ICAD) and the Anti-illegal Drug Task Force to suppress the drug problem in the country.”

“Through the steadfast leadership of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag, the Bureau is committed to assuring a drug-free community that will greatly contribute to the welfare of all personnel, especially our clientele,” she added.
