Atty. Mitchell-David L. Espiritu, spokesperson for Trabaho party-list, condemned the reported surge in killings of Filipino trade union leaders as highlighted in a recent report by the Federation of Free Workers and the Danish Trade Union Development Agency.
The party-list, which advocates the rights and welfare of Filipino workers, emphasized the urgent need for stronger protection mechanisms for labor groups and called on the government to continue to take decisive action against these attacks.
Espiritu underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all Filipinos, especially the working class, can freely organize without fear of violence or repression.
Trabaho reiterated its platform of working closely with government agencies and private sector partners to improve labor conditions.
Espiritu urged the government to take concrete steps in addressing these attacks, ensuring accountability, and providing comprehensive protection for trade unionists.
Trabaho vowed to strengthen labor policies through legal reforms, increase funding for employment-related government agencies, and the implementation of livelihood and skills training programs.
Trabaho has expressed confidence that they will continue to gain traction in Luzon and other parts of the country after jumping four places from 26th to 22nd in the Stratbase-Social Weather Stations survey conducted from March 15 to 20.
It is also visiting public markets around the country to listen to problems affecting vendors.
