CHR celebrates 37th anniversary; commits promotion, protection of Filipinos' human rights

As the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) celebrates its 37th founding anniversary on Sunday, May 5, it reiterates its commitment to pursue its mandate of promoting, upholding and protecting human rights of Filipinos, particularly the disadvantaged, marginalized and vulnerable.

805 PDLs freed in April 2024 -- BuCor

A total of 805 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) had been released from various prison facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) within one month ending April 30, 2024.

Convicts Lee, Guerrero, Raz to be detained in other jails, not in Bilibid -- BuCor

Businessman Cedric Lee, Ferdinand Guerrero, and Simeon Raz who have been convicted of serious illegal detention for ranson and sentenced to life imprisonment in the case filed by television host  Ferdinand "Vhong" Navarro will not be detained at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City. 

American fugitive arrested in Manila -- BI

An American fugitive, who has been ordered arrested in the United States for possesion of criminal instruments he intended to use in commiting offenses, has been apprehended in Manila.  

Enhanced info sharing among countries needed to intercept foreign fugitives -- BI

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco underscored the need for an enhanced information sharing among the governments of other countries to prevent the entry of foreign fugitives to the Philippines.
