WATCH: Chef Tatung Sarthou shares new egg recipes you must try

Tired of scrambled and sunny-side-up eggs?

Life is full of moments where one must face dreaded questions. There’s the “when are you getting married?” tita question, the “how much salary are you expecting?” in a job interview, and “when to let go?” when relationships are no longer in cloud nine. All of these and more are tough to answer and yet we cannot avoid them. But if there is one that people are quick to give a response to, it is the question “can you cook?” The answer can only go two ways. One, they’ll just drop a few dishes they have mastered over the years. The other, they’ll just say they can cook an egg, which is a code for “I don’t know how to cook.”

Well, if you’re go-to answer too is the egg, life and dining can be pretty boring with your hard-boiled, scramble, and sunny-side-up cycle. Fortunately, noted celebrity chef Myke “Tatung” Sarthou has been sharing some mean and easy egg recipes from his Simpol Kitchen you can try at home. Challenge yourself and make 2022 the year when you can say “I can cook an egg unlike any other.”

Eggy Mapu Eggplant

Anyone who finds comfort from tortang talong will definitely love Chef Tatung’s take on Mapu (or Mapo) Eggplant dish. Spicy and full of flavors, the Japanese dish gets an egg inclusion giving it richness, perfectly served with a bowl of steamed rice.

Simpol Pinoy Shakshouka

Chef Tatung brings Northwest Africa to the kitchen with his version of the Maghrebi dish Shakshouka. Apart from the poached eggs, he adds sardines to the mix making it loaded with protein. Savor it with pita bread on the side or warm pandesal.

Simpol Stir-fried Egg

Elevated sunny-side-up without the fuss, that is what his Simpol Stir-fried Egg dish is about. Onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers add flavors and color to the humble fried eggs and sauce made of pantry staples ketchup, oyster sauce, brown sugar takes the dish to another level.
