CEBU CITY – The Manila Bulletin Sketchfest made a successful return from a two-year hiatus with the staging of its Cebu leg on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the City Wing of SM Seaside Cebu here.
Close to 200 participants showcased their creativity by competing in three categories: On-the-Spot, Digital, and Exhibition.
Each category was divided into three divisions: Kiddies (four to 12-years-old), juniors (13 to 18-years old), and seniors (19-years-old and above).
Mark Dy, Manila Bulletin brand and marketing manager, said the return of the Manila Bulletin Sketchfest drew a sizable turnout despite the challenges brought about the by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I don’t want to say it’s difficult but the challenge was making sure that the people will come back to a face-to-face event,” Dy said.
The return of Manila Bulletin’s signature event was also made possible by the enormous support of sponsors, Dy said.
“We are happy with the turnout and we are also happy that there were so many who supported the event,” Dy added.
Now on its 11th year, the Manila Bulletin Sketchfest aims to promote the advocacy of art.
The annual event started in 2011 but was halted by the global health crisis.
With the theme “Saving Earth,” this year’s MB Sketchfest added the digital art category.
After this city, the Manila Bulletin Sketchfest will be held at SM City Davao on Oct. 1 to be followed by the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on Oct. 22.
The event offers as much as P50,000 worth of prizes and round trip tickets for two to any domestic destination.
