Marcos’ Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced, during a May 30 press conference, Frasco’s appointment to the Tourism post.

"We likewise commend President BBM for appointing to the Cabinet a fourth official from the ranks of the local government unit (LGU) executives who know exactly what is happening on the ground and have first-hand knowledge of and experience in grassroots development,” said Villafuerte on Sunday, June 5; Villafuerte himself previously served as Governor of Camarines Sur.

“Incoming President BBM knows that local chief executives can bring a new perspective to the way national government agencies implement their programs and projects,” he continued, referring to Marcos’ stint as Governor and Vice Governor of Ilocos Norte.

The solon explained that Frasco, being a local official, would boost the local tourism industry in lesser-visited areas through better promotion and industry development–adding that he was hopeful that she would promote infrastructure development to boost tourism.

“Spending on infrastructure in tourism, which is one of the domestic sectors worst hit by the two-year Covid-19 crisis, would hopefully reverse the fiasco committed by our tourism officials in prioritizing state rehabilitation funds for soft loans to tourism-related establishments instead of for building infra for tourism services in preparation for the complete reopening of our tourist destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists,” Villafuerte said.

Aside from serving as Liloan’s Mayor, Frasco also acted as Vice President-elect Sara Duterte’s spokesperson during the 2022 campaign season.
