We’ve seen biker-friendly tables in our local dining scene, but having an exercise bike installed in restaurants, now that is new. That feature is present in a McDonald’s in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province in China and is currently going viral thanks to a video shared by Tiktok user Cris13yu.

While these installed exercise bikes offer a new way to enjoy everyone’s McDonald’s meal, maybe even more guilt-free, they are also in line with the fast-food chain’s “low-carbon and environmentally friendly life” initiative, in partnership with China’s multinational conglomerate Wanda Group. The bikes are made out of recycled plastic and allow diners to charge their phones as it generates green electricity.

“McDonald's China upholds the concept of green growth, builds its own green 'circle of friends,' and works with authoritative and professional partners such as the U.S. Green Building Council and Wanda Group to jointly promote the development of green buildings,” Liang Haijing, chief development officer of McDonald's China, said. “At the same time, we use brand influence to open a dialog with consumers, so that consumers and other stakeholders can understand and participate in the field of sustainable development.”

According to the brand’s website, the concept located in Wanda Plaza is McDonald’s first low-carbon life experience store in China. Apart from the bikes, it also houses other items made of recycled materials, from marine plastic-made seatings to interior decorations crafted from recyclable wood grain and aluminum. It also has an interactive projection game where diners can learn more about environmental protection.
