The positivity rate of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Metro Manila has decreased to 5 percent, which is considered "low," independent research group OCTA said on Saturday, Oct. 30.

"The positivity rate, which measures the proportion of people who test positive using RT-PCR in the NCR (National Capital Region) decreased to 5 percent for the first time since July 14, 2021," OCTA research fellow Dr. Guido David said in a tweet.

He pointed out that a positivity rate of 5 percent or below is an acceptable positivity rate, according to the World Health Organization's (WHO) standards.

"Hopefully, by next week, we will see something close to 4 percent. But based on history, the positivity rate in NCR plateaus around 3 to 4 percent," David said.

Based on OCTA's guidelines, aside from a low positivity rate, Metro Manila's current reproduction number of 0.55 and healthcare utilization rate of less than 60 percent are also considered "low."

Meanwhile, the average daily attack rate or incidence rate in Metro Manila remained under the "moderate" level at 6.75 cases per day per 100,000 population.
