LOOK: McDonald's preserves beauty of an ancestral building

With over 600 stores in the Philippines, this McDonald's site is definitely among the standouts

Did you know that the latest branch of fast food giant McDonald's stands on a legacy ancestral house in Laguna? Established last July, this store in San Pedro celebrates the value and charm of heritage buildings.

According to the brand, the store location is the Morando-Almendrala House, one of the remaining ancestral houses in the city. With more than a hundred years old, the house holds many memories for the townspeople, which is why the brand is keeping its architectural beauty alive.

"We value and take part in preserving one of the oldest historical structures in San Pedro," the brand says in a post. "We wish to continue the heritage of being a place rich in its original cultural design, and, at the same time, providing a modern, feel-good dining experience to our customers."

Mixing the old with the new, the restaurant kept the iconic façade of the heritage house with its metals works on the window frames and artisanal wood lining on the ceiling. But its interior is all about the future of dining with its sleek design, self-order kiosk, and socially-distanced floor layout.

This is not the first time McDonald's refurbished and reused age-old Philippine infrastructure. Some of its must-visit sites are a Spanish-themed restaurant in Vigan, a 1928 Victorian-inspired building in Zamboanga City, and an old art deco building in Silay, Negros.

Time travel may still be a thing for science fiction, but these restaurants will surely give you the feeling of the past, with a serving of a happy meal on the side.
