BuCor hires 350 more corrections officers to beef up operations in 7 prison facilities

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has hired 350 more corrections officers last September to beef up the efficiency in the operations of its seven prison facilities in the country.

“The Bureau of Corrections moves forward to its modernization by continued upgrading its facilities and increasing the number of its personnel to strengthen capability towards efficient and competent corrections service,” BuCor said in a statement issued Tuesday night, Oct. 19.

It said the newly hired personnel took their oaths of office at its national headquarters in Muntinlupa City last Sept. 30.

Aside from the new corrections officers, those who also took their oaths of office were 16 promoted corrections inspectors and 30 non-uniformed personnel.

It said that BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag encouraged “the newly promoted personnel to be persistent to the challenge and obligation given to them now.”

“As to the newly hired Corrections Officers, they should instill and exemplify patriotism and discipline among themselves and to render true and dedicated service to our nation,” it said quoting Chaclag.

For year 2020, BuCor had recruited almost 800 corrections officers. For 2021, it started its recruitment last March.

BuCor’s prison facilities are the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IWPPF) in Puerto Princesa, Leyte Regional Prison (LRP), and the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Zamboanga City.
