2 NPA fighters yield in Misamis Oriental

BUTUAN CITY – Two armed New People’s Army (NPA) fighters yielded to police units in Misamis Oriental province recently.
Regional Public Information Office chief of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO 10-RPIO) Police Major Joann G. Navarro, identified the rebel returnees as certain “Ka Dom”, 33 and “Ka Rhia”, 24, both of collapsing Platoon Lennon, Guerrilla Front (GF) 4B, Sub-Regional Committee 1 (SRC 1) of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC). They were presented to media on Monday, August 31.
Personnel of the 1001st Maneuver Company (MC), Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB 10), together with intelligence operatives of RMFB 10; 11th Special Action Company, 1st Special Action Battalion, Special Action Force; Regional Intelligence Unit 10 (RIU 10); Directorate for Intelligence–Mindanao Area Police Intelligence Office (DI-MAPIO); National Intelligence Coordinating Agency 10 (NICA 10); Magsaysay Municipal Police Station (MPS); Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU); and 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office (MORPPO), jointly facilitated the voluntary surrender of the two rebels in Barangay Kibungsod, Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental, on Friday, Aug 28, and they were officially presented on Monday.
The two rebel returnees also yielded two shotguns and 12-gauge live bullets, as they pledged to help the government’s peace and development program, Navarro said.
They are now in the custody of the 1001st Maneuver Company, 10thRegional Mobile Force Battalion, in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, for custodial debriefing and individual profiling.
The surrendered firearms and ammunition are likewise under the custody of the same unit and will be turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit (RFU) for forensic examination.
Navarro added that their voluntary surrender was aligned with the Chief PNP’s focused agenda of strengthening internal security and supporting the government’s efforts to encourage members of armed groups to abandon the armed struggle, lay down their weapons, and return to the folds of the law.
Meanwhile, PRO 10 Director Police Brig. Gen. Nestor C. Babagay, Jr. emphasized that the peaceful surrender of these Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members is a significant step toward lasting peace and security, urging those who remain in the armed movement to lay down their weapons, return to the folds of the law, and avail themselves of the government’s reintegration programs.
“Their decision to lay down their arms and return to the folds of the law is a positive step toward peace and a better future,” Brig. Gen. Babagay, Jr. said, adding “We encourage those who remain in the armed movement to choose peace, surrender voluntarily, and take advantage of the government’s reintegration programs”.
Recently, one city and eight towns in Northern Mindanao or Region 10 was formally declared under a state of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS), marking the culmination of decades of efforts to end insurgency in the said areas.
The municipalities of Lugait, Manticao, Naawan, Initao, Libertad, Gitagum, Alubijid, and Opol, and El Salvador City are declared SIPS.
Maj. Navarro said the declaration in these said areas marked a significant milestone in the province’s continuing peace and security efforts, reflecting the collective commitment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP, Philippine National Police (PNP), civil society, and communities in sustaining peace and creating an environment conducive to development.
