Residents in San Miguel, Bulacan told to evacuate as rivers swell
SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan—Residents in San Miguel were told Friday, Aug. 28, to prepare for immediate evacuation as rivers swelled from heavy monsoon rains and releases from Bulo Dam, raising the threat of widespread flooding.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) issued the advisory for Barangays Salacot, Buga, Ilog Bulo, Bagong Silang, Mandile, Pinambaran, Cambio, King Kabayo, Baritan, and nearby villages.
Flooding is also expected along the San Miguel River, which runs through Camias, Tigpalas, San Jose, San Juan, Poblacion, San Vicente, Sta. Rita Bata and Matanda, Paliwasan, Salangan, San Agustin, and Batasan Matanda and Bata.
Residents in low‑lying areas were urged to be ready for urgent evacuation.
Mayor Bong Alvarez ordered the advisory as the municipal government mobilized food packs and relief supplies for families who may be displaced.
He said the rising waters are due to heavy rains in the mountains brought by the southwest monsoon.
Residents with emergency needs are advised to call the MDRRMO hotline at 09177152016.
