PH Coast Guard rescues swimmer from drowning in Bangar, La Union

BANGAR, La Union — Personnel of the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Bangar rescued a 27-year-old man after he was nearly swept away by strong waves while swimming off Barangay Paratong 3, report said Tuesday .
The victim, a resident of Barangay Quintarong, Bangar, was swimming with two companions when strong waves unexpectedly dragged them away from the shoreline on Aug 22.
While his companions managed to return safely, the victim struggled to reach the shore.
A concerned resident immediately sought assistance.
The CGSS Bangar Disaster Response Group (DRG) Team promptly proceeded to the area and, with the assistance of local residents, conducted a search and rescue operation using lifesaving equipment.
The victim was successfully rescued and safely brought back to shore.
The Philippine Coast Guard urged the public to exercise extra caution when swimming or engaging in other water activities, particularly in areas experiencing strong waves and hazardous sea conditions.
