San Juan gov't distributes 200 school chairs made from recycled plastic

The San Juan City government distributed 200 school chairs made from recovered plastic waste to students of Kabayanan Integrated School on Monday, Aug. 17, as part of Project Hiraya.

Mayor Francis Zamora led the turnover ceremony together with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando “Don” Artes, MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre, JCI Manila officials and city officials.
The chairs, which come with armrests, were produced from plastic waste collected by the MMDA and recycled into school furniture.
The city government said the initiative gives discarded plastic a new purpose while providing additional learning resources to students.
Aside from the chairs, the city government distributed 200 bags containing school supplies, 300 packed meals, and 200 milk drink packs.
The activity was attended by officials of the Schools Division Office of San Juan City, school officials, teachers, and students.
Meanwhile, the local government said that around 13,000 public school students will receive free customized rubber shoes and physical education uniforms on Monday, Aug. 17.

However, the distribution of rubber shoes was postponed due to inclement weather.
The city government said a new schedule will be announced.
Residents were advised to stay safe and continue monitoring official government channels for further announcements.
