13,000 San Juan public students to receive new rubber shoes, P.E. uniforms

The San Juan City government will again distribute free customized rubber shoes to 13,000 K‑12 public school students, replacing the pairs previously provided, as part of its program to support learners’ school needs and help ease family expenses.

Mayor Francis Zamora said the distribution will be held at the Makabagong San Juan Theater on Monday, Aug. 17.
New P.E. uniforms will also be distributed, with Zamora saying that even newly enrolled students will receive their own set and pair of shoes.
The local government said the distribution is part of its comprehensive educational assistance program to help reduce families’ expenses and provide public school students with the resources they need for their studies.
In July, the local government also provided K-12 public school students with new tablets, while continuing to provide fiber-optic internet connections in all classrooms and students' homes. All classrooms are also equipped with 55-inch smart TVs, while brand-new school uniforms were distributed earlier this year.
The city government also provides financial incentives to honor students and graduating students from Grades 6, 10, and 12, as well as those who excel in regional, national, and international academic and sports competitions. Public school families also receive financial assistance for educational expenses.
All public school teachers are also provided with laptops and financial incentives.
Zamora has made education a key priority of his administration, with the city government continuing to provide various forms of support to students, families, and teachers.
The city government said these efforts have helped San Juan achieve a 95 percent functional literacy rate, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2024 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS), released in 2025. San Juan ranked first among highly urbanized cities in the country.
