Marcos orders agencies to remain on heightened alert over habagat

President Marcos has ordered agencies to remain on heightened alert over the impact of the southwest monsoon or "habagat" in some parts of the country, Malacañang said.

Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Sunday, Aug. 9, Marcos is particularly the situation in flood-prone areas and the rising water levels in dams and reservoirs.

The President directed concerned agencies to remain on heightened alert and closely coordinate on water releases, Castro said.

He also ordered agencies to take the necessary preventive measures to protect communities and critical infrastructure.

"The President will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that government agencies are ready to respond as conditions develop," Castro said.

Rains from the enhanced habagat may persist over parts of Luzon until midweek, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Marcos is expected to meet agency heads for a situation briefing to discuss the effects of habagat on Monday, Aug. 10.
