Palace: Marcos won't meddle in any probe over ex-speaker Romualdez

Malacañang said President Marcos will not interfere with any investigation involving his cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, over his alleged link to the flood control mess.

Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President did not react to reports that the Office of the Ombudsman may file complaints against Romualdez over his alleged participation in the multibillion-peso flood control scandal.

"Wala po, hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo sa anumang pag-iimbestiga (None, the President will not meddle with any investigation)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Monday, July 20.

"Sabi nga po natin at ang sabi rin po ng Pangulo, kahit sino po ang maapektuhan ito, kung saan po pupunta ang ebidensiya, sundan na lang po natin (As we have said, and as the President has also said, no matter who may be affected, wherever the evidence leads, we should simply follow it)," Castro added.

"So, kung ano po ang mangyayari sa anumang pag-iimbestiga dito, hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo at tatanggapin po ito (Whatever happens in the course of the investigation, the President will not interfere and will accept the outcome)," Castro stressed.

The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) on Friday, July 17, said that it is “very close” to filing plunder charges against Romualdez.

The lawyer of Romualdez also said that the former House speaker is prepared to face the complaints that the Ombudsman may file against him.
