Malacañang said that President Marcos was indeed worried over the impeachment complaints filed against him, not for himself, but for the country's economy.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro has reiterated that the filing of impeachment complaints against the President would not only affect the official but the entire country and its economy. Thus, Marcos is concerned.
"Ang pagsasampa po ng impeachment complaint laban po sa Pangulo, hindi Pangulo lamang ang maapektuhan nito kundi ang buong bansa at pati ekonomiya (The filing of an impeachment complaint against the President does not affect the President alone but the entire country, including the economy)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Monday, Feb. 2.
"So, nababahala po ang Pangulo sa impeachment complaint na isinampa sa kanya, hindi para sa sarili niya dahil alam niya na wala siyang ginawang mali at walang impeachable offense siyang ginawa, pero nag-aalala siya sa epekto nito sa ekonomiya (So, the President is concerned about the impeachment complaint filed against him—not for himself, because he knows he has done nothing wrong and has committed no impeachable offense—but because he is worried about its impact on the economy)," Castro stressed.
The Palace official also expressed respect over the latest development in the impeachment raps filed against the Chief Executive.
"That's the process, we have to respect that," she said.
This, after the House Committee on Justice declared the two impeachment complaints sufficient in form.
Castro further said that while Marcos was concerned over the impeachments' impact to the economy, he remains confident as the deliberations would assess whether or not the arguments for Marcos' ouster can be substantiated with evidence.
"Even before, sinabi na po ng Pangulo na alam niya na wala siyang ginawang mali, wala siyang ginawang paglabag sa batas, at wala siyang ginawang impeachable offense. Kaya kumpiyansa siya sa sarili niya (Even before, the President has said that he knows he has done nothing wrong, has committed no violation of the law, and has not committed any impeachable offense. That is why he is confident in himself)," Castro said.
Meanwhile, the Palace official maintained that Malacañang is not responsible for any looming impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
"I believe they are almost the same allegations made, even before when the first impeachment complaint was filed. So, nothing new, or maybe a little few. But even if, we do not have any hand, we are not responsible to the filing of those impeachment complaints. So, it's up to the Congress to evaluate and decide with regard to the subject matter," Castro said.
