Two Filipinos, who posed as tourists and admitted they will work illegally abroad, were stopped from leaving the country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
They were not identified by the BI which merely said they are a 44-year-old female and a 32-year-old male who were intercepted at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) last July 18 before they could board their flight to Hong Kong.
The BuCor said the woman admitted that she would be heading to the United Arab Emirates with assistance from her male companion who she claimed to be her cousin.
The man, on the other hand, admitted that he was actually bound for Jeju Island in South Korea to work in a farm, it also said.
“Both individuals were turned over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) for further investigation and filing of appropriate charges against the facilitator and their recruiter,” it added.
