The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has agreed to set up a one-stop immigration services at the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone (ZamboEcoZone) to ensure ease of doing business for foreign investors.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said he has signed on Wednesday, June 11, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with ZamboEcoZone Chairman and Administrator Raul M. Regolanda.
“This is good news not only for Zamboanga, but for our national economy,” Viado said.
Under the agreement, the bureau’s one-stop shop will provide immigration processing and documentation services for foreigners investing or working within the economic zone, he also said.
The one-stop immigration services will “make it easier for investors to bring in talent, operate efficiently, and expand confidently, and thus, another step of making the Philippines more investor-friendly,” he added.
Viado pointed out: “We recognize that efficient immigration services are crucial to attracting and retaining foreign businesses, especially in emerging regional economic hubs like Zamboanga.”
The BI noted that ZamboEcoZone is “a government-created economic hub in Mindanao designed to promote trade, employment, and regional development.”
“Strategically located near international shipping routes, it offers competitive incentives for export-oriented and logistics-driven enterprises,” it said.
