Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado welcomed the probe on his alleged corruption at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) as ordered by President Marcos.
BI's Viado welcomes 'corruption' probe ordered by Pres Marcos
In a statement on Wednesday, June 11, Viado said: “We respectfully acknowledge and welcome President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s statement regarding the need to look into the issues raised in the so-called Bureau of Immigration (BI) white paper.”
Viado issued his reaction after the President said the corruption allegations in a recent “white paper” allegedly from anonymous concerned BI employees is already being looked into.
“We share the President’s view that transparency, fairness, and due process are essential in addressing matters of public concern,” Viado said.
“We trust that an impartial and comprehensive investigation will bring clarity, establish accountability where warranted, and ultimately strengthen the public’s trust in our institutions,” he added.
Last Monday, June 9, Viado denied allegations made in the “white paper” including making decisions in favor of foreigners connected with Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
“So, for the record, I unequivocally state that all the allegations contained in the alleged ‘white paper’ are patently false,” Viado said.
“Should any pertinent agency of the national government decide to look into the supposed ‘allegations’, I reiterate the commitment of the Bureau to lend its fullest support. This is the same commitment I have extended to the Committee of Senator Imee Marcos,” he added.
