200 Bilibid's PDLs transferred to Sablayan Prison in Occidental Mindoro
Two hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City have been transferred to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said the transfer was part of the ongoing decongestion at the NBP.
The 200 PDLs arrived at SPPF last May 30, Catapang said.
“The transfer is part of the continued decongestion program of NBP and preparation for its closure by year 2028 and to support the agricultural manpower of Sablayan for Institutional Projects,” he also said.
The transferred PDLs were escorted in their trip to SPPF by 100 corrections officers led by CCInsp. Anthony Nupable Omega with augmentation from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) security, the BuCor said.
Last April 29, 300 Bilibid PDLs were transferred to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF).
Meanwhile, Catapang said he has instructed BuCor prisons officials and personnel to prepare for the onset of the rainy season by repairing facilities, trimming trees, and readying power supplies.
“By adhering to these preventative strategies, the BuCor seeks to minimize risks associated with heavy rainfall, thereby safeguarding both inmates and staff alike,” he also said.
