Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla submitted to President Marcos his courtesy resignation on Thursday, May 22.
“In line with your call for a government devoted solely to public service and free from politics, I respectfully tender my courtesy resignation as Secretary of Justice,” Remulla said in his letter addressed to the President.
Remulla said: “I offer this in recognition of the principle that all members of the Cabinet serve at the pleasure of the President, and in full support of your vision for a united and responsive administration,” the letter also stated.
Remulla assured: “Whatever the outcome, I remain fully committed to the goals of your administration and to the service of the Filipino people.”
In an interview with journalists, Remulla said: “I'm a soldier. I serve the President. I am at his beck and call and I serve at his pleasure.”
When asked if he is willing to get appointed to another position, Remulla replied: “We're willing to undertake any role.”
He then defended the move of the President to ask the courtesy resignations of Cabinet secretaries.
“I think that it's something that's given to him as a leader of this country to have the best people he trusts to keep running the government with him. So talaga (really) we give him the full trust and confidence the same way he gives it to us. Kaya dapat ano kami talaga we just follow the leader and lahat kami dapat mag-comply (So we have to follow the leader and all of us should comply,” he also said.
