Hundreds seek shelter in Parañaque evacuation centers

A total of 177 families or 562 individuals have sought shelter in seven evacuation centers in Parañaque City as continuous rains from the southwest monsoon, or habagat, prompted residents in several barangays to evacuate.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez ordered the continued monitoring of flood-prone areas and the readiness of evacuation centers as rains persisted across the city.
Olivarez said 10 evacuation centers in five barangays are currently open to accommodate additional residents who may be forced to leave their homes due to worsening weather and flooding conditions.
In Barangay BF Homes, 43 families or 151 individuals are staying at the Phase 3 Gymnasium, while five families or 13 individuals are at the Phase 1 Gymnasium.
Another 11 families or 36 individuals have taken refuge at the Barangay San Antonio Hall.
In Barangay San Dionisio, 32 families or 103 individuals are staying at the Palanyag Gymnasium.
Barangay San Isidro recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 70 families or 199 individuals at Santos Multipurpose Hall, followed by nine families or 39 individuals at Lopez Village Multipurpose Hall, and seven families or 21 individuals at Silverio Elementary School.
City authorities continue to monitor affected areas and keep the other evacuation centers on standby for possible additional evacuees as the habagat continues to bring rains.
