QC collects 240 tons of flood waste in August, lowest in 2 years

Quezon City collected 240.23 tons of flood waste this August following the recent southwest monsoon (Habagat), according to the Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works of Quezon City (DSQC).
The volume was equivalent to 15,359 sacks of garbage collected in 58 clearing trips, significantly lower than the amounts recorded after weather disturbances in the previous two years.
DSQC reported that clearing teams collected 1,998.73 tons of flood waste in 528 trips in July 2025 following Typhoon “Crising,” while 27,484 tons were hauled in 3,371 trips in July 2024 after Typhoon “Carina” and the Habagat.
Fewer barangays and districts were also affected by flooding this year compared with previous years, DSQC said.
The decline in flood waste was attributed to the continued implementation of flood mitigation projects under the city’s Drainage Master Plan, sustained cleanup drives, and the cooperation of QCitizens.
The city government urged residents to help maintain cleanliness and order by properly disposing of their garbage and supporting local government initiatives.
