CEBU CITY - A 20-year-old student was arrested for making a bomb joke inside a school in Argao town, southern Cebu.
Police said the student was undergoing routine inspection when he made the joke past 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
John (not his real name) is a first-year Bachelor of Information Technology student.
The school has enforced stricter security measures due to the spate of violence in campuses.
Police said a school security guard was inspecting the student's bag when he uttered “Basi na-ay bomba diha, mubuto (There might be a bomb inside. It might explode).”
The student was then brought to the Student Affairs Office while school officials called the police.
Upon further inspection, no bomb was found from the student possession.
Authorities warned that making bomb jokes is punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727 or the Anti-Bomb Joke Law.
