Pugo, La Union police warn tourists, residents against entering waterways

PUGO, La Union — Police here have intensified safety monitoring in tourist destinations and waterways, warning residents, visitors, and tourists against swimming or entering rivers and other bodies of water amid the rainy and typhoon season.

Personnel of the Pugo Police Station, under the supervision of PMAJ Joseph C. Burcio, OIC, coordinated with concerned barangay officials and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) in areas frequented by tourists.

Police said heavy rainfall may cause sudden rises in water levels and strong, unpredictable currents in rivers and waterfalls, increasing the risk of drowning, slips, falls, and other water-related accidents.

The initiative is in line with the directives of PBGEN Jovencio S. Badua Jr., Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), to strengthen public safety and preventive measures, particularly in areas vulnerable to weather-related incidents.

Tourists and residents are urged to temporarily avoid waterways during heavy rains and to follow safety advisories .

The Pugo police, barangay officials, and BPATs will continue monitoring tourist areas and waterways to help prevent untoward incidents and protect the public.
