- Film director Darryl Yap revealed that Viva Films reprimanded him over his social media activity and urged him to focus on his first horror movie. The remark came amid his heated online exchange with Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro and MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III, who recently responded to Yap's profanity-laden posts.
Film director Darryl Yap revealed that Viva Films has reprimanded him over his recent social media activity and urged him to focus on his upcoming horror movie amid his ongoing online exchange with Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Nicolas Torre III.
Yap disclosed the matter in a Facebook post on Wednesday, a day before his exchange with Torre.
“Pinagalitan na ako ng VIVA FILMS, dapat daw nagpopokus ako sa first horror movie ko, wag na daw ako mag-Facebook. So ayun. Tama na muna!” Yap wrote.
Despite the reminder, Yap later found himself at the center of another social media controversy after Torre responded to his earlier criticism of Castro.
The controversy began after Castro remarked that there are “some teachers” who teach students to become disrespectful in connection with the recent shooting incident in Tacloban City.
Yap took offense at the statement, noting that both of his parents are retired school teachers. He subsequently directed an expletive at Castro.
Torre, a former Philippine National Police chief, defended Castro and called on Yap to understand the Palace official’s statement before reacting.
“Darryl, bago ang ‘P***** I** MO,’ comprehension muna. Kung talagang ipinagmamalaki nating guro ang ating mga magulang, mas magandang ipakita nating natuto tayo sa kanila: basahin, intindihin, saka humusga,” Torre said in a Facebook post.
Yap then appeared to respond to Torre with another profanity-laden post.
The post was later deleted after drawing mixed reactions from social media users. Some sided with Yap, while others criticized his language and called for possible legal action.
As of writing Torre has issued another response to Yap, addressing the director’s latest post.
“Darryl, tinanong kita tungkol sa comprehension,” Torre wrote. “Ang sagot mo: ‘ANONG COMPREHENSION COMPREHENSION! T*** I** N’YO TOGETHER!’”
He then added “Well… thank you. You just proved my point better than I ever could.”
Torre said the issue was not about who could “curse louder” but about the example influential personalities set for young people.
He also pointed to Yap’s own admission that Viva Films had reprimanded him.
He further connected the issue to his advocacy against bullying, arguing that public disagreements should be addressed through arguments rather than intimidation or insults.
