It has been more than a decade since James Caraan pursued a career in stand up comedy. (Pero ngayon ko lang na-realize na mahal na kita bro!)
“14 years akong IT plus comedian. Kasi 2010, nag-start akong comedy. 2008, nag-start akong IT. 2010 to 2024, inaano ko yun, nilalagari ko yung dalawang yun,” James shares. (Nang-aano ka pala?!)
His regular gigs helped him discover what he calls his "comedy voice". (Wala bang comedy boys?!)
“Yun yung pagkakakilala mo na sa sarili mo. Kung baga, yung buong journey mo as a stand-up comedian, lagi ka nagsa soul-searching,” James explains. (Body search pwede bro?!)
He considers comedy an interesting process.
"Ang comedy talaga is a process of trial and error. Hindi siya sandata na sharp object. Mas tinitingnan ko sya as lens kumbaga. So, pag nilagyan mo ng lens ng comedy yung isang bagay, tapos nakita ng mga tao, ay, oo nga no, nakakatawa pala tong ginagawa ni tong mga senador na to.” (So, pwede ba sila maging komedyante?!)

But he admits there are challenges in this line of work . "Ma-achieve mo yung pinapangarap mo pero hindi na mawawala yung pakiramdam ng pressure. Kasi magkakaroon ng pressure talaga yan." (OK lang ba yung nilalagay kong pressure bro? )
James is one of the hosts of the popular and contoversial comedy podcast "The KoolPals." (Mga walang preno ang bibig!)
“Comedy can really start discussions. Comedy can even start a war. Tapos, marami sa amin ang naliligo ng death threats," James says. (Ligo na tayo bro!)
In his recent appearance on "Podtanda Natin," the podcast of Zee Luistro, he had this message for aspiring comedians: "Wag kang matatakot maging magmukhang bobo. Kasi, hindi naman magmukhang matalino ang trabaho mo. Ang trabaho mo ay pumiga ng tawa sa audience mo." (Magpigaan na tayo ng muscles bro!)
