BACOLOD CITY - The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) served an arrest warrant for rebellion or insurrection against a 57-year-old woman linked to a 2019 encounter between the New People's Army (NPA) rebels and government forces in Negros Oriental.
Personnel of the Manjuyod Municipal Police Station in coordination with the Malaybalay City Police Station in Bukidnon served the warrant at the Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (PDRC) in Barangay Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on Friday, August 14.
The suspect identified as Gwen, a resident of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, was tagged as fourth most wanted person in NIR.
According to PRO-NIR, the suspect was already under detention at the PDRC in connection with another warrant.
The warrant stemmed from the suspect's alleged participation in an armed encounter between the NPA rebels, Philippine Army 704th Company, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)-7 (Central Visayas) in Sitio Kambugtong, Barangay Bantolinao, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental on June 22, 2019.
In a statement, Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director, vowed to continue to strengthen its efforts in serving warrants and ensuring that wanted persons are made to face the charges filed against them.
"We will continue to uphold the rule of law while
respecting the rights of every individual throughout the legal process,” he said.
