Family's harrowing trip through pothole littered highway in Rosario, La Union
LA UNION -- A family’s trip turned into hours of agony and distress as they had to negotiate deep, water-filled potholes along the national highway in Nagtagaan, Rosario, La Union, that also resulted into damaging three tires of their vehicle.
Danica Guevara said in her Facebook post that they first hit a large pothole before dark, damaging one tire. Later, while driving slowly at night, they hit another pothole that was difficult to see because it was filled with rainwater. Two more tires, including the newly installed spare, were damaged.

Another vehicle reportedly hit the same pothole less than an hour later, damaging two tires.
The motorists are now appealing to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) La Union, DPWH Region 1, and the Municipal Government of Rosario to inspect the area and install warning signs, reflectors, or barricades while permanent repairs are pending.
"Talagang kakabahan ka sa pagbiyahe kapag gabi maliban sa malakas na ulan na minsan zero visibility pa tapos may hindi ka inaasahan na malaking butas sa kalsada maiiyak ka na lang sa trauma," a motorist who travel a lot from Pangasinan to La Union said.
For motorists, the concern goes beyond damaged tires and expenses—it is about preventing the next road accident .
"Nandiyan lamang sa La Union ang Regional Office kaya dapat mas mabilis na aksiyon," another motorist told the Manila Bulletin.
