CEBU CITY–The human head that was recovered from a grassy area in Talisay City, Cebu last July 11 belonged to the woman who had been reported missing for more than a month.

This was disclosed by Talisay City Police Station Chief Lt. Col. Homobuno Sayon, who said DNA samples taken from the fatality Pilar Basilio and her son Kyde Tupas were used to identify the remains.

Basilio was a native of Zamboanga City and worked as a caregiver in Barangay San Isidro, Talisay. Tupas traveled to Cebu after he learned that his mother was reported to have disappeared last July 4.

Sayon said while they were awaiting the result of the DNA, a thorough investigation to identify the culprit in the gruesome killing was already being conducted.

Sayon said they were able to gather evidence pointing to a certain Reiñer, nephew of the victim’s employer, as a possible suspect.

Sayon said personal grudge may be the motive for the killing. Further investigation showed that Reiñer was also facing murder charges in Zamboanga.

When the DNA result came out, police immediately applied for a search warrant, which was used to raid the suspect’s house on Saturday, Aug. 8.

The suspect was arrested during the raid.

Police said .38 revolvers, packs of suspected shabu, and a bolo believed to have been used in decapitating the victim were recovered in the house.

There was also footage of the motorcycle used to dispose of the severed head.

Police also found bones believed to have been part of the victim’s body inside the suspect’s home.

Police said charges are being readied against the suspect while follow-up investigation will be made to determine if had any accomplices in committing the crime.
