1,100 families in La Union evacuate due to bad weather

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – A total of 1,191 families in various localities of La Union have evacuated due to the effects of tropical storm Maymay, low-pressure area (Luis), and the enhanced southwest monsoon as of 5 a.m. Thursday.

Based on the situational report by the La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), of the total number, 732 families or 2,080 individuals are staying inside evacuation centers, while 459 families or 1,375 individuals are staying outside evacuation centers.

The evacuees are from Bacnotan, Bangar, Luna, San Juan, Bauang, Burgos, and Caba, and San Fernando City.

The report stated that 42 barangays experienced power interruption in Agoo, Bauang, Naguilian, Luna, and San Fernando City but power has been restored in 33 of them.

Meanwhile, seven partially damaged houses have been reported in Bauang.

The provincial government, through the PDRRMO, conducted relief distribution in Bauang, Aringay, Agoo, Luna, Bangar, and Bacnotan.

"We are always prepared, as long as there's advice of typhoons, we always mobilize almost everybody. Now, not only with the provincial government, but even our local government units, they are all prepped up," said Gov. Mario Eduardo Ortega in an earlier interview.

Ortega said they assured residents in evacuation centers that they will be provided with food and other basic needs. (PNA)
