‎Flood, power cuts batter La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Hundreds of residents were displaced while several areas in La Union were affected by flooding, power interruptions, and a landslide from heavy rains caused by tropical cyclone Luis and the southwest monsoon.

‎The La Union Provincial Information Office said 27 weather-related incidents were monitored in the province as of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

‎Knee-deep flooding was reported in the municipalities of Bauang, Santo Tomas, and Naguilian, as well as the City of San Fernando.
‎
‎A landslide and fallen trees were also reported in Naguilian, while power interruptions affected 34 barangays in Bauang, Naguilian, and San Fernando.
‎
‎A total of 159 families, or 484 individuals, are staying in evacuation centers in Naguilian and Bagulin.
‎
‎Another 29 families, or 99 individuals, are temporarily sheltered outside evacuation centers.
‎
‎Meanwhile, 61 families in the municipalities of Bauang and Aringay were preemptively evacuated as a precaution against possible flooding and landslides.
‎
‎Provincial officials urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow the directives of local disaster management officials.
‎
‎ The provincial government suspended classes and work in government offices on Tuesday, Aug. 4, following the issuance of an Orange Rainfall Warning due to inclement weather.
‎
‎The suspension under Executive Order No. 41 seeks to ensure public safety as heavy rains continue to affect the province.
‎
‎Suspension of work in private companies was encouraged.
‎
‎Offices delivering essential services, including health, disaster risk reduction and management, and emergency response, will remain fully operational.
‎
‎Residents were advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions against flooding and rain-related hazards.
