ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Commission on Elections has included the town of Al-Barka in Basilan province in the red list category, a list of high-risk areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao elections in September.
High-risk areas are places exhibiting the highest risk level due to a combination of active armed insurgent groups, intense local political rivalries, and a history of election-related violence.
Al-Barka has 13,664 voters.
Two municipalities in the province were included by the Comelec in the orange category, towns flagged due to serious security threats posed by lawless elements.
These are Tipo Tipo with 14,960 voters and Tabuan-Lasa with 18,140 voters.
The list was prepared in connection with the elections on Sept. 14.
